Elon Musk, the entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is planning to launch a new AI platform called ‘TruthGPT’ to compete with the likes of Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. The platform is said to be an alternative to the popular language model ‘ChatGPT’ developed by OpenAI.
Musk revealed his plans to create the new AI system during a recent interview with Fox News on April 17. According to Musk, TruthGPT will be a “maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” and its goal is to promote safety and understanding rather than to annihilate humanity.
Musk has been critical of OpenAI, a research company he helped set up, accusing the organization of training AI models to be “politically correct,” which he claims is “another way of being untruthful.” In addition, he has criticized the company for becoming “closed sourced” and “effectively controlled by Microsoft.” Musk’s concerns about potential bias in AI have led him to set up a new company called X.AI, which was incorporated in Nevada on March 9. X Corp., the parent company of Twitter, is also registered there.

The new platform is aimed at addressing the issue of bias in language models, which has become a major concern in recent years. Musk believes that current AI systems are flawed and tend to perpetuate existing biases and misinformation. In a tweet, Musk said that TruthGPT is designed to be a “maximum truth-seeking AI” and that it will be open source, which means that anyone can use and modify it.
The move comes amid growing concerns about the impact of AI on society and the need to ensure that it is developed in an ethical and responsible manner. There have been several instances where AI systems have been found to be biased against certain groups of people, and Musk believes that this is a major problem that needs to be addressed.
For X.AI, Musk is listed as the sole director, while Jared Birchall is listed as the secretary. Musk aims to create a third option to OpenAI and Google with the goal of promoting more good than harm. He believes that by developing an AI that cares about understanding the universe rather than just focusing on specific tasks or goals, it is less likely to pose a threat to humanity. Musk stated during the Fox & Friends show, “I think this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”

According to Musk, TruthGPT will be able to provide more accurate and reliable information by analyzing vast amounts of data and identifying patterns and trends. The platform will also be designed to learn from its mistakes and continuously improve its performance.
The launch of TruthGPT is likely to be seen as a challenge to OpenAI, which is currently the leading developer of language models. However, Musk has said that he is not looking to compete with OpenAI directly but rather to provide an alternative that is more focused on promoting truth and accuracy.
