The Immutable Passport, a one-stop solution for a password-less authentication and user recognition system for Web3 gamers, will soon be made available via ImmutableX, the Ethereum scaling system. In a press statement, the company stated,
“Customer research conducted by the ImmutableX team found that ease of onboarding, security, compliance, and plug and play features were the top priorities for development studios integrating Web3 components into their game.”
Similar to an Apple ID or Xbox Gamertag, the new tool is still a non-custodial wallet, gamer profile, and authentication solution that doesn’t need a password to sign in. This indicates that Immutable is not responsible for maintaining users’ private keys and validating transactions.
Players will have access to numerous Immutable Passport features. These include a safe digital wallet, fraud protection, and seamless authentication between Web3 games and markets.
“For Web3 gaming to reach a billion players, onboarding must be invisible, secure, and work across any game – mobile, console, or desktop,” Immutable president and co-founder Robbie Ferguson stated. He further added, “Passport is a self-custodial wallet, where users can sign in with just an email and one-time password – it will be a game changer for players and radically reduce user acquisition costs.”
Due to well-known companies like Ubisoft or Square Enix embracing cryptocurrencies, including non-fungible tokens (NFT), to offer new revenue streams for artists, blockchain-based gaming has advanced recently. Web3 gaming has experienced tremendous growth and investment, according to research from Blockchain data firm DappRadar. In August 2022, $748 million was raised to create new Web3 games.
According to Immutable, the new technology will benefit Web3 gaming studios to “drive adoption across mainstream audiences, maintain enterprise-grade security and access meaningful player analytics.” Any studio incorporating Passport will have access to the ImmutableX ecosystem’s active players.
